Athletes of the Week
Our KSEN/k96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week were key players with a lot on the line for team success.
Shelby Volleyball Coach Jessica Brusven says senior Brook Luly, “does it all and she does it all well.” The coach says Luly was especially key in Shelby’s win over previously undefeated Choteau last week and she turned in another excellent performance against Cut Bank Tuesday night. It really seems hard to even name a position for Luly because she plays in all rotations and contributes in every spot. In the Choteau match she led the team in aces with four and the key statistic, 24 assists which led to 51 team kills and a season high 20 for Maddison Underdal. Brook also added six kills and six digs. In the Cut Bank match, Luly had 11 kills, her season high, and the top of the team stats. She also served three aces in a row as the Coyotes routed the Wolves in game three of the match. Coach Brusven says “she plays a key role for us in setting, hitting, blocking and defensively and has been consistent at it all year long.”
Our male Athlete of the Week is the first this year to win multiple awards. Senior receiver, Kolby Kovatch played a key role, especially in the 2nd half of Choteau’s win in the last minute over Centerville 40-36. After running back Kyler Crabtree went down with an injury, Kovatch took over at the running back spot and carried the ball 23 times for 145 yards. With five catches for 140 yards, the combined offense is 285 and he scored one touchdown. In the 42 plays that Choteau ran offensively in the 2nd half, Kolby was involved with 25. The win assured Choteau of a first round playoff appearance, on the road next week at Fairview.
Also nominated this week, Valier Volleyball Sr. standout Abby Bock. Bock recorded 3 aces and led the team with 11 kills in a recent match against Augusta.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Sr. Kolby Kovatch of the Choteau Bulldogs and Sr. Brook Luly of the Shelby Coyotes. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
