Our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy female Athlete of the Week is as solid as they come, but still had some impressive numbers over the weekend. Our male Athlete of the Week has been impressive all year long and becomes our 1st Wrestler of the year to grab top honors.

Shelby Sr. Bailey Johnson has been in a starting role for the Coyotes since her So. Year and she has always been steady in rebounding duties, taking good shots and hitting from the free-throw line. In her Sr. season, She’s playing essentially the same way, but it’s producing even bigger results.

In two games last weekend she led the team in scoring with 19 in a win over Cut Bank and 16 in a loss to Malta. There was a lot to add to the points as Bailey pulled down 12 rebounds in the Cut Bank game, shot 75-percent on 9-12 from the field and had 3 steals.

Similar numbers but not as many shots against Malta where she went 4-7 from the field, hit 8-13 from the free-throw line and had 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Shelby Coach Mac McDermott says, “Bailey is a good teammate, always plays hard and is very deserving.”

Our Male Athlete of the Week has had the kind of season where he could have multiple awards but we couldn’t hold off any longer after he took the gold medal in the Choteau Classic last weekend.

Sophomore Austin Vanek has had a very successful season for Cut Bank at 160-lbs. He won the Superior invitational early in the year and maybe most impressive, his 2nd place finish at the CMR Holiday Invitational where 60 teams were entered.

Vanek started off the New Year with a 2nd place finish at the home Cut Bank Invitational and then in Grand Fashion, he spent only 5minutes, 24-seconds on the mats in Choteau. Vanek pinned all four of his opponents and won the Tournament Quick Pin Award. He did take 3:10 to get to his Semifinal opponent, so the other three were gone in less than a minute.

Also nominated this week, Hayden Harrell of Cut Bank who scored 20 and 36 points respectively against Shelby and G.F. Central.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Bailey Johnson of Shelby and So. Austin Vanek of Cut Bank. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athletes with two free value meals each.
