KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week both led Browning out of the Western A Divisional last weekend and into the State A Tournament this week.

Our female Athlete of the Week, Browning Sr. Dulci Skunkcap who was instrumental in leading the Lady Indians back from an opening round loss in the Divisional to a 3rd place finish on Saturday night. The 3-year starter led the team in scoring in all of the next 3 games with 18 against Ronan, 20 against Whitefish and 14 against Dillon in the Consolation game.

Browning Head Coach Ray Augare says, “she kind of controlled everything driving inside and scoring, but not to lose sight of the assists she dished off to Tamika Guardipee and Abby Bull Calf who scored a combined 19 points in the Consolation game.

The coach was also complimentary of Skunkcap’s ball handling skills, bringing the ball up the floor and her overall defense and rebounding.

Our Male Athlete of the Week is Browning Jr. Blayne DeRoche. With a 6ft.-3in frame and the ability to jump out of the gym, DeRoche is a key and sometimes dominant rebounder for the Western A Division Champions. While Riley Spoonhunter has been Browning’s leading scorer throughout the season, it’s DeRoche who many times is picking up those offensive rebounds and giving the Indians a second-chance score.

In the Western A, DeRoche had 10-points in the opener and 12 in the Championship game. We also played a little catch up after DeRoche was highly deserving of an Athlete of the Week award after Browning’s late season win over Havre in which DeRoche scored 27 points, had 14 rebounds and 9-steals.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week Sr. Dulci Skunkcap of the Browning Lady Indians and Jr. Blayne DeRoche of the Browning Running Indians. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
