Having now come to the end of the winter sports season, we’re moving slightly backwards to grab one athlete who truly deserves to be an athlete of the week and for the other we’re right on track.

Our male athlete of the week recently completed another phenomenal run on the wrestling mats coming ever so-close to winning a state championship. Northern b/c divisonal champion Roper Mycke, a junior at Conrad qualified for the state tournament, as he has in every year of his high school career. He also ran through the first three matches of the state tournament before facing yet another defending state champion in the finals. Conrad head coach Kevin Moritz says Mycke wrestled “extremely well,” all season and in the state tournament but in those finals he’s meeting up with the best of the best and now has finished second, three years in a row. He ended the season with a superb 29-5 record and is now 104-22 in his three-year career.

Despite two losses at the state B basketball tournament, our female athlete of the week, was once again the one that made things happen for the Fairfield Lady Eagles. Junior forward, Tori Jones, led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points in each game. She pulled down nine rebounds in the two games, went 4-7 from the free throw line and had two steals and an assist. KSEN’s own Gary Goodan who broadcast the state tournament games said that Jones seemed to the one “that was getting things done when she was on the floor.”

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman trophy athletes of the week, junior Roper Mycke of Conrad and junior Tori Jones of Fairfield. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
