Some truly big performances in the football playoffs and district volleyball tournament play last weekend resulted in some hard thinking on our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy male athlete of the week, but the nod goes to Shelby junior running back and linebacker, Tanner Parsons. This first year Shelby student-athlete has been strong all season and stood out on both sides of the ball in the Coyotes first round playoff win over Darby. In the end, Parsons scored three rushing touchdowns, had over 100 yards total and capped it off with a pick-six from the linebacking spot. Head coach, Mike White, also complemented defensive end, Dillon Luly, for the constant pressure put on the Darby quarterback.

Also nominated this week, Fairfield senior quarterback, Ryder Myer, a key figure in Fairfield’s undefeated season and a 40-0 first-round playoff victory. Myer completed 11 of 13 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown. He carried the ball ten times for 54 yards and one touchdown and turned in twelve tackles on defense.

Our female athlete of the week comes from the Choteau Bulldogs who have now run their record to 17-0 and added another district championship last week. It’s a talented and senior-laden team with a lot of players contributing in lots of ways. Head coach, Ann Funk, said in the Choteau Acantha, “We hustle and we play with a lot of heart”, and of course that will lead to a lot of wins. Among those talented players, senior Michaela Gunderson is as good as they come and she’s our athlete of the week. Gunderson led the team in kills with 11 in the semi-final against Shelby and another 11 in the championship match against Fairfield. She was also the top server and co-led the team with three aces in the opener against Cut Bank.

Also nominated this week is Valier senior Coralee Bock, a leading defensive player, and server for the Panthers, who led the team for much of the season with a 91% serving average.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week, junior Tanner Parsons of Shelby and senior Michaela Gunderson of Choteau. The Athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
