Athlete of the Week
Our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week are making a name for themselves on the track and in the case of our male athlete of the week, in his third sport of the season. Female athlete of the week honors go to Kamdyn Molenda, a junior from Cut Bank, who coach Crystal Kain says has been very consistent all season long and has already qualified for state in the 100m dash. Her best effort came in the Cascade Top Eight meet in Choteau this week where she finished second in the 100, placed third in the triple jump and led the Cut Bank girls to a first-place finish in the 400-relay. Sixteen and a half points total were a big factor in helping cut bank to a team title with 88 points over second place Belt with 69. In a highly competitive meet in Whitefish last Saturday, Kamdyn had a fifth place finish in the 100 and the 400 relay team finished fourth.
Also nominated this week freshman tennis player Christine Funk from Choteau lost only one match in three tournaments. The loss came at the hands of her teammate Michaela Gunderson.
Our male athlete has been a three sport star in Sunburst this season, junior Michael Buckley rushed for over 11-hundred yards for the Refiner football team despite missing four games due to injury. He was a starter and steady as they come on the refiner basketball team that came up just short, 1 game, from a state tournament berth. At the top eight meet in Choteau, Buckley won the high jump with a leap of five feet ten inches. He earlier finished second at the Cal Wearly meet also with a jump of five feet ten inches. I have always been impressed with how hard he plays.
Also nominated this week, bull rider Jayde Murphy of Cut Bank, Jayde won both high school rodeo events in Valier last weekend and had the only qualified rides.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week; junior Michael Buckley of Sunburst and junior Kamdyn Molenda of Cut Bank. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
