(Shelby) – They waited for a long time to tee it up, but when the time came both of our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week had no winter rust on their swings.

Our male athlete of the week has already gained notoriety from the numerous junior championships that he has either won or has been very competitive. In his first high school tournament ever, freshman Jarek Shepherd of Conrad shot an impressive six-over 78 at Marias Valley to win medalist honors by two strokes. Inside the lines, we’re told that Jarek got off to a rough start and was four over after just five holes…..but he re-grouped and shot better on the back nine with a sensational hole-out on #12 from 93 yards out. Jarek came back on Tuesday night this week and won a nine-hole triangular meet at Marias Valley with a 43, winning on a chip-off against teammate Kyle Vandenacre.

Also nominated this week, the tennis duo of Colby Kraft and Dawson Matt of Cut Bank.  At a tournament in Libby this week they won the doubles championship and included in that run a win over Missoula Loyola which included half of the doubles team that won last year’s state championship.

Our female athlete of the week has been a staple atop the leader board for the past two years and appears as though she likes it there again this year.  Shelby junior, Skyler Martin, opened the season with a solid 87 to win the Shelby Invitational at Marias Valley. She was the only golfer in the 80’s and one of only three that broke 100.

Congratulations to our golfing KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week, freshman, Jarek Shepherd of Conrad and junior, Skyler Martin of Shelby.  The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in cut bank.   McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
