Celebrate the history of Shelby and Toole County!  Through the generous support of Humanities Montana, the Montana Main Street Program, KSEN Radio and the Shelby Promoter… the City of Shelby and Champions Park Committee has created the Toole County Heritage Audio Tour and Shelby Historic Walking Tour.  The audio tour highlights Shelby’s meager beginnings …the coming of the railway…the homesteading years…the historic Dempsey Gibbons World Heavyweight Championship Fight and points of interest throughout Toole County.  The CD is narrated by radio personality Gary Goodan. Highlighted within the CD are the voices of some of the residents of the Marias Heritage Center telling stories from Echoes of the Prairie.  The cost of the CD is $10.00 with proceeds going toward continued development of Champions Park.  The CD is available for sale at the Shelby Area Chamber of Commerce office and Office of Economic Development at 100 Montana Avenue.

As a companion, the Shelby Historic Walking Tour has also been created.  The self-guided walking tour highlights Shelby’s historic main street business district and adjacent neighborhoods.  Read about Shelby’s oldest standing building; Toole County’s first courthouse; Shelby’s historic Main Street fire of 1959; the Larson Block; and so many other interesting places and events that shaped our community.

To celebrate these historic pieces of history…Champions Park Committee is hosting an inaugural walking tour on Wednesday, July 17th beginning at 7:00pm at the Chamber of Commerce Office- Historic Shelby Town Hall.  Join community members in walking Shelby’s Main Street Business districts and the adjacent residential neighborhoods, listening to stories from the past – history of the buildings – the architecture of the time period.  A goodwill offering will be welcomed to support Champions Park development.
