Ice Fishing Derbies Approved for This Winter

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks approved a number of ice fishing contests for 2015-2016.
Participants must comply with state fishing regulations, including daily and possession limits. Some contests require catch-and-release fishing and participants in these contests may not keep any fish. Ryan Zinke November 2014 Credit US House of Representatives

Coffee with your Congressman – A Message from Ryan Zinke

A lot has been happening in Washington the past few weeks so I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you some of the progress.

Last week, Congress voted for a temporary budget to keep the government funded through December 10th. While the budget bill was far from perfect, it kept the government operating for the people of Montana. In the coming weeks, I'll be working with anyone who is willing to work with me in order to cut spending, reduce the debt and deficit, ensure a strong national defense, and get government out of your personal and private lives.

The House also passed the 2016 defense budget, also known as the NDAA. In addition to a pay raise for our troops and childcare for military moms and dads, this year’s defense budget also includes important pieces for Montana, like bolstering the mission at Malmstrom with the Tactical Response Force Alert Facility and updating our nuclear capabilities. I’m also very happy to see my provision, the SEMPER FI Act, was included to address the security vulnerabilities at military recruitment centers so the tragedy that happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is never repeated.

As your Representative in the House, staying accountable to you is a top priority of mine. That's why I'm hitting the road the week of October 12th and stopping in Browning, Cut Bank, Shelby, Chester, Glasgow, Culbertson, Bainville, Sidney, Glendive, Miles City, Baker and Colstrip. I'll travel more than 1,000 miles and host 11 public events along the way. I'd love to see you there and hear about your concerns and ideas about how to make Washington better work for you. Contact my Billings office at406-969-1736 with questions. See the schedule after the jump:

Athletes of the Week

(UNDATED) – Our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week had big performances in big games last week. Female athlete of the week honors go to 5'8" sophomore Brittany Brusven who put up big numbers in teh key volleyball match of the week in the 1B. Both teams were undefeated in conference play coming into the match, and while Shelby's overall team play was a key in their 3/2 victory, Brusven's numbers were undeniable. Thirteen kills topped all players, but she also had ten digs, ten assists, two aces and five blocks. While Brusven is officially listed as setter she plays as strong as anyone at the net and int he back row, as the numbers show. Shelby head coach Ron Buck said it was definitely one of the best overall matches he has sen as the head coach. Brusven also added four kills, nine digs, three aces and a team leading sixteen assista in a 3 game sweep over Browning.  Buck called the win over Choteau... undoubtedly a huge victory that puts the Coyotes atop the conference with a 4/0 mark. He says compared to the start of the season, the biggest improvement has been how the team's playing together after replacing fours seniors from a year ago.
