Saturday in the Park….On Snowshoes!


WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Glacier National Park is hosting Winter Signs Snowshoe Walks every Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. beginning Saturday, January 12, Winter Trails Day.  This day is celebrated throughout the country as an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and discover the fitness and social benefits of outdoor activities.  The snowshoe walks will continue through March 17. 

 The public is invited to join the two-hour, ranger-led snowshoe excursions of the winter environment.  The program is free. Participants are encouraged to bring snowshoes or they are available to rent for a nominal fee at the Apgar Visitor Center.  It is recommended that participants wear sturdy winter boots and dress in layers for a variety of winter conditions, and bring water and snacks.  The snowshoe walks are suitable for all ages and abilities.

 The walks begin and conclude at the Apgar Visitor Center. There is no group size limit and no reservations are taken. In the event of severe weather or insufficient snow, individuals should contact the visitor center at 406-888-7939 on respective weekend days, between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to confirm that day’s outings.  Please contact the park headquarters at 888-7800 for general information regarding the walks, or visit

 Park entrance fees are required.  The park’s winter entrance fee is $15 for vehicles and $10 for single entrants (hiker /bicyclist /motorcyclist) for a seven-day pass. When an entrance stations is not staffed, it is the responsibility of the visitor to pay entrance fees at self-pay stations at respective park entrance stations. Annual park passes, which allow visitors unlimited entry to the park for 12 months from the date of purchase, are available for $35.  Annual passes may be purchased on weekends from entrance stations when staffed or at park headquarters on weekdays, 8 a.m. -4:30 p.m., or by calling 406-888-7800. 

 The snowshoe walks are presented in partnership with the Glacier National Park Conservancy.  The Conservancy, a recent merging of the Glacier National Park Fund and the Glacier Association, brings retail and philanthropy together to better support Glacier National Park.   For more information about the Conservancy, an official partner of Glacier National Park, visit
