Hope Smelser, Power Pirate Volleyball, September 28 2016

A sophomore from Power who is a dominating force at the net, showed off her skills in a grueling three to two match win against conference foe Dutton/Brady. Hope Smelser was surely the big hitter with 15 kills but also had 14 digs and three of the teams’ four blocks. Power Coach Crystal Harvie says Smelser is a hard worker and very deserving of the honor. In Power’s match win over Augusta, she had 18 kills and six digs and Coach Harview says she really stepped it up when the lady Pirates got off to a slow start.

Cory Richter, Valier Panther Football, September 28 2016

Richter has thrown 13 touchdown passes in four games but two of those games were losses. This time he led the CJI Hawks to victory with 238 yards passing on 12-16 and five touchdowns. Richter also ran the ball twenty one times for one hundred  ten yards and one touchdown. He added seven tackles and an interception on defense. Coach Jim Vinson said it was extremely difficult to choose a nominee with several exceptional performances for the Hawks.
