Athletes of the Week
Mark is on vacation this week and he asked me to pick this week’s Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week. Now, I’ve never done this before and I didn’t get any nominations from you, so I’m doing this my way. I’m giving the athlete of the week honors to a cross country champion, and a couple of football players that aren’t even starters on their teams.
Our female athlete of the week is Brooke Holland of the North Toole County Refiners. Brooke has had a notable last few days, on Friday, she won the Cut Bank Booster invitational; Monday, she beat a pretty talented field in the Shelby Invitational. Brooke’s time of 21:02 was more than a minute and a half faster than the second-place runner, L’Tia Lawrence of Harlem. As a freshman, Brooke finished ninth at state with a time of 21:21. She’ll be in the hunt to get to that twenty-minute mark, which was the state championship time last year. Good Luck to Brooke Holland of the North Toole County Refiners.
Like I said, since I didn’t get any help from you, I’m splitting my male athlete of the week award for two football players that come off the bench for their teams and saw extensive play last week. Sophomore, Lane Fischer of Chester-Joplin-Inverness has rushing touchdowns of fifty, five and 41 yards in the Hawk’s 68-20 win over Belt. While Lane sees a little time at tailback with the first unit most of his work came after CJI had built a lead in the third quarter. He also had a few tackles and an interception on defense. The week before, Lane score three more touchdowns and rushed for 90 yards on 16 carries in a 54-0 win over Cascade.
My other choice for male athlete is sophomore, Stanley Jarvis of North Toole County High School. Stanley sees most of his time on special teams as a kick returner and scored the Refiners’ second touchdown against North Star Saturday on a 57-yard kickoff return. After Sunburst built a lead, Stanley got his turn at tailback, where he scored on runs of 52 and 15 yards. Honorable mention to North Toole County Center Bradford Sydor, who normally plays enter, but had a long interception return for a touchdown on Saturday and also scored a rushing touchdown.
My congratulations to North Toole County cross country runner, Brooke Holland and football player Stanley Jarvis and CJI footballer, Lane Fischer, my KSEN-K96 athletes of the week. McDonald's in Cut Bank honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
