LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

(UNDATED) – Our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week had big performances in big games last week. Female athlete of the week honors go to 5'8" sophomore Brittany Brusven who put up big numbers in teh key volleyball match of the week in the 1B. Both teams were undefeated in conference play coming into the match, and while Shelby's overall team play was a key in their 3/2 victory, Brusven's numbers were undeniable. Thirteen kills topped all players, but she also had ten digs, ten assists, two aces and five blocks. While Brusven is officially listed as setter she plays as strong as anyone at the net and int he back row, as the numbers show. Shelby head coach Ron Buck said it was definitely one of the best overall matches he has sen as the head coach. Brusven also added four kills, nine digs, three aces and a team leading sixteen assista in a 3 game sweep over Browning.  Buck called the win over Choteau... undoubtedly a huge victory that puts the Coyotes atop the conference with a 4/0 mark. He says compared to the start of the season, the biggest improvement has been how the team's playing together after replacing fours seniors from a year ago. Our male athlete of the week was a big contributor to Fairfield's run-away win over defending state champion, Townsend. Junior running back, Chandler Allen has 11 carries in the game for 119 yards, two touchdowns and five solo tackles with one sack on defense. Fairfield head coach Les Meyer says as always good football starts up front on the offensive and defensive line and once they got things started the skilled players, like Allen, Cade Heckman and quarterback Tanner Mayer did their thing. Meyer noted that All also stepped into the wildcat quarterback slot and did some good things in the second half.

Other nominations this week included Shelby cross country runners Kim Parsell and Kyle Heptner. Parsell won the Shelby meet last week and finished 66th out of 263 varsity girls at the Mountain West Classic and won the Browning invitational. Heptner was second in Shelby, 157th of 413 varsity boys in Missoula and second at the Browning Invitational.

And, from Sunburst, Jackson Nagy with two touchdown receptions, on touchdown run and an interception return for a touchdown for the Sunburst win over Froid/Medicine Lake.
