There's going to be a march & candlelight vigil tonight (Thursday) down in Gardiner to show "buff-love" for Valentine's Day. The organizers are raising awareness for the Yellowstone wild buffalo herds. Stephany Seay with the Buffalo Field Campaign says hundreds of the animals are killed each year just for moving beyond the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park, & her group wants it to STOP! The organizations reports that 425 animals have been killed so far this winter, & more than 200 are being held in a trap inside Yellowstone National Park. Ms. Seay says it's expected they will be sent to slaughter. Many ranchers & some property owners object to the large animals roaming outside of the park because of concerns of possible disease transmission to livestock & other damage. Seay says there is a move to limit the number of animals inside the park to 3000, which she says isn't a large enough number to support genetic diversity. She points out that wild bison are migratory animals, so it's in their nature to move beyond Yellowstone boundaries in the winter in search of better food. Tonight's march begins at 5:30 at the Forest Service Distric office. The candlelight vigil is set for 6:30 at Roosevelt Arch in the park. I really don't have much of an opinion on this one way or the other, but I can tell you that I sure enjoy eating buffalo wings...the hotter the better!
