February is flying by and March means Agriculture Appreciation Month for us. I come from a family that includes several farmers and ranchers - I work at the radio station, so I haven't grown any food lately, but I'm interested and I'm grateful. Recently, one of my farming/ranching relatives shared a link to this blog on Facebook and I think it's pretty on-point. You've heard about the "Occupy Movement" targeting those in our society with top incomes, but there may be a group of 1% that you're not as aware of. In part, the article, by Damian Mason, Keynote Speaker for Business and Agriculture, owner DaLoRosa Farms, Writer, Small Business Owner, Humorist, reads:

A couple years ago the “Occupy Movement” camped out and played bongo drums protesting Wall Street’s “Wealthy 1%” Their gripes were the sort of emotionally charged, rich-versus-poor stuff the media loves. Pan to a shot of a bearded pot smoker demanding someone pay off his student loans because nobody values his degree in Egyptian Art Studies.

I see a different 1% under attack, and it’s equally absurd. I’m talking about farmers.

He goes to tell the explain a few important things about food production:

Here’s the scoop: ours is the safest and most abundant food supply in the history of the world. Period. It’s also the cheapest, but as bottled water sales figures and Whole Foods’ business success illustrate, you’re not really motivated by cost.

It's a great little blog article that may help open your eyes to where your food comes from. It gave me yet another reason to be grateful.
