Tim McGraw Heading to Court Over Contract Dispute with Record Company

After 10 studio albums and almost 20 years, Tim McGraw‘s days as a Curb Records recording artist appear to be coming to a close with the strike of a judge’s gavel.

The ongoing feud between McGraw and his longtime label, which has been simmering for over a year, will head to trial on November 29, when they’ll argue over McGraw’s right to record while he’s settling his contract dispute with Curb.

It all started when McGraw headed into the studio to work on ‘Emotional Traffic,’ his upcoming follow-up to his 2009 release, ‘Southern Voice.’ Curb argued that it was too soon for a new album, eventually filing suit in May to prevent him from completing ‘Traffic.’ One week later, McGraw filed a counter-suit.

It’s an ugly situation, but one that McGraw seems to be taking in stride. “Right now it’s just a matter of letting the legal system handle this,” he said. “All I can do is keep doing what I do. I’ve always been a good, honest guy and done the work the way it needed to be done and fulfilled whatever I’ve been obligated to do. All you can do is hope our good faith pays off in the end.”

In the meantime, McGraw is filling his calendar with acting projects like his role in the new film ‘Dirty Girl,’ opening this weekend. Exploring his dramatic side is exciting for McGraw, who says, “I relish it, I love it. It’s exhilarating, it’s challenging, it makes me find something within myself that sometimes you don’t know you have. There’s nothing about it that I don’t like, except for the waiting. Sitting around and waiting — I could do without that part.”

Unfortunately, there’s more waiting in McGraw’s future. After his November court date with Curb, the two sides won’t reconvene until next July.
