The Wackiest Warning Labels of 2012

“These globes should not be referred to for navigation.” That warning, spotted on a 7″ toy globe, has earned the 2012 title of “Wackiest Warning Label” from the Center for America, an organization dedicated to battling what it calls the nation’s lawsuit-happy culture by pointing out the lengths to which companies must go to avoid product-related lawsuits. Visitors to the website were asked to submit wacky warnings they spotted on retail products. Kelly Watson of Texas earned a cool grand for finding the globe.  2nd place and $500 went to Dave Woehrer of Wisconsin, whose electric razor came with a warning that it should not be used while sleeping. In my humble opinion, The warning carried by neck pillows in the photo….clearly designed for children…should have taken the top prize, but it placed 3rd, which was still worth $250 to Noelle McDonald of California.

The nominations for the 2013 Wacky Warning Label awards are open now, which means I’m taking a trip to a fabric store, where I spotted a sure contender. On a bolt of really cute, cuddly flannel fabric, was a warning that read “not intended for children’s sleepwear.”
