Today (Tuesday) is America's PrepareAthon! National Day of Action, a community-based campaign to increase emergency preparedness & resilience through action. FEMA's Denver-based Regional Office joins the states of Montana, North Dakota South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah & Colorado in encouraging the whole community to take ACTION to prepare for emergencies. According to a recent survey conducted by FEMA, 50% of Americans have NOT discussed or developed an emergency plan for family members about where to go & what to do in the event of a local disaster. Additionally, nearly 70% of Americans have not participated in a preparedness drill or exercise, aside from a fire drill at their workplace, school or home in the past 2 years. To encourage more Americans to prepare & practice, the America's PrepareAthon! campaign offers easy-to-implement preparedness guides, checklists & resources. These tools help individuals, organizations & entire communities practice simple, specific actions they can take for the emergencies & disasters relevant to their area. Several states in FEMA Region VIII including Montana are supporting America's PrepareAthon! in the coming weeks with a variety of events & preparedness actions. Come Wednesday, October 22nd, it's the "Great Montana ShakeOut" as Montanans will come together for 1 day to practice how to "Drop, Cover & Hold" in a statewide earthquake preparedness drill. For more information, please visit: http://shakeout.org/montana/. In the meantime, I'll keep doing what I do every afternoon on the Puffman Show..."Shake, Rattle, & Roll out the tunes!
