The Lance Armstrong doping scandal has captured the interest of the world over the past few days after the cyclist admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he used PEDs and cheated during all 7 of his once-triumphant Tour de France victories. It’s the the kind of drama that makes for a great movie. And, as you might have expected, the Lance Armstrong doping scandal is going to do just that.

Star Trek Into Darkness‘ director J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures are teaming up on a Lance Armstrong movie centered around the recent doping scandal that will be based on the upcoming book “Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong” by Juliet Macur. The book hasn’t been published yet but Macur is a New York Times journalist who has been covering Armstrong’s career over the past 10 years.

Interestingly enough, Sony Pictures was once developing its own Lance Armstrong movie that would’ve had Jake Gyllenhaal starring as the renowned cyclist. But once Armstrong’s formerly feel good story began to take a darker turn, the studio dropped the film. Abrams’ film won’t be so happy-go-lucky and will instead focus on Armstrong’s rise and fall and the more insidious side to his story.

So of course the question is, who should play Lance Armstrong? We never really felt that Jake Gyllenhaal was much of a match for the cyclist so now’s a chance to completely recast the role. What about Bradley Cooper? He’s got the tall, wiry-but-muscular look down and, from his work in ‘The Hangover,’ we know he can play the smug a–hole.
