Ahhh! ‘Home Alone’ House Sells for $1.5 Million

Sometimes all it takes to buy a piece of movie history is a hefty bank account. Such was the case with the house where a young Macaulay Culkin outsmarted a pair of bungling criminals in the 1990 holiday classic film ‘Home Alone,’ which just sold for $1.5 million.

The suburban Chicago residence, a 4,250 square-foot red brick colonial just a few blocks from the Lake Michigan coastline, boasts 14 rooms, four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a screened-in porch. (Also, traces of Marv and Harry’s burned hair. Seriously, Kevin McCallister was a little psychopath.)

And while the million-dollar-plus price tag may make you want to slap your cheeks and scream, the unnamed buyer actually got quite a steal (see what we did there?) — the original list price was $2.4 million.

The former owners bought the place for $875,000 in 1988 and rented it out two years later for the filming of ‘Home Alone.’ The interior was decorated by set designers (and has since been updated), but the staircase Culkin’s character Kevin McCallister famously sledded down was already there and is still intact.

Here’s a tour of the house done when it first hit the market and — just for nostalgia’s sake — the trailer from the movie that put the residence on the map.
