Explore the Old North Trail in June

 

CHOTEAU– Old Trail Museum trustee, Anne Dellwo and Metis elder Al Wiseman are leading Old North Trail tours in June.  The invite the public to learn about ancient peoples, their practices, and the cultural items they left on the eastern Rocky Mountain Front.  There will be a South tour on June 9, and a North tour on June 16. 

Participants are encouraged to carpool, pack layered clothing, lunch and water and meet at the Old Trail Museum, located in Choteau at the north end of main street, at 7:30 am on each of these days.  The tours will last about seven hours.  A donation of $25 for adults and $10 for students is suggested and all proceeds go to support the programs of the Old Trail Museum.

The South Tour includes the Métis cemetery, Métis history sign, Buffalo Drive Lane, Eagle Catch Pit, Old Battle site, tipi rings, the physical site of the Old North Trail, and if time permits, the Big Ring.

The North Tour includes the Big Ring, tipi rings, Buffalo Jump, Vision Quest site, Eagle Catch Pit, Antelope Butte Battle site, Rock Carans, and the physical site (stone markers) of the Old North Trail.
