For about $35, couples in England who are having trouble conceiving can purchase a lottery ticket that could win them customized fertility treatments in one of the nation's top clinics.

Britain's Gambling Commission approved of this bizarre game late last month. As of now, the tickets can be purchased online, but they may soon also be available at newsstands.

If your number comes up in what is being called the "win a baby lottery," not only will you get $40,000 worth of fertility treatments (or reproductive surgery, donor eggs and sperm or a surrogate birth if standard in vitro fertilization fails) but a limo will take you to and from the clinic, and you will be given a personal assistant to help you decide what treatment is best.

According to Camille Strachan, founder of the charity that is sponsoring the lottery, it will provide hope for those who are having trouble conceiving, now that Britain's national health service is cutting back on government funding of IVF.

Josephine Quintavalle, of Comment on Reproductive Ethics, blasted the lottery, though, arguing the "creation of human life should not be reduced to a public lottery ... this demeans the whole nature of human reproduction."
