Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to win an unprecedented third term in power this month at the 20th Party Congress. This dialogue will discuss the implications of this event with Bonnie S. Glaser, director of the Asia Program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Bay Fang, president of Radio Free Asia and a Mansfield Center advisory board member, will moderate.
The speakers will address how a newly empowered Jinping will approach relations with the U.S., whether he would use force to reunify with Taiwan and how the policies of the U.S. and its partners are likely to affect Jinping’s calculations.
The Mansfield Center is an academic unit of UM dedicated to fostering globally minded leaders of integrity in honor of the legacy of Sen. Mike Mansfield and his wife, Maureen Hayes Mansfield.
