‘The Voice': Kirk Jay Does Lonestar, Blake Shelton Says ‘I Love You’
Monday night (Nov. 19) was another memorable evening on Season 15 of The Voice, with the 13 finalists competing for America's votes. The show this evening had contestants handling a "dedication" theme, delivering songs of their own choice directed toward important people in their lives.
Finalist Kirk Jay, on Team Blake Shelton, had already established himself as a competent country crooner when he belted out a surprisingly measured performance of Rascal Flatts' difficult-to-nail classic "Bless The Broken Road"—a sweet and pretty song that nevertheless can be too easily drowned in syrup—back in October.
He decided to pull a few more heartstrings this night by choosing Lonestar's emotional pusher 2001 hit "I'm Already There"—another song that requires balance—and then dedicating it to his mother, whom he said has never heard him perform live before.
Of course, he hit all the high notes with this particular performance, including wowing the coaches, who gave him a standing ovation—with Shelton in particular moved to express his emotions by saying "I love you." Will he move forward with America as easily? That remains to be seen.
The Voice will continue on tomorrow (Nov. 20), with two singers heading home. Stay tuned as we keep an eye on the developments!
