It was a beautiful ceremony, and yes, I was up at 4:00am to watch it. The bride was radiant, the gown lovely, and the Prince was truly charming. The tightly-choreographed event went off without a hitch (except for the hitch, of course.) One commentator noted that just as Kate Middleton stepped out of her car, the sun broke through the clouds to shine on her as she entered the church...now that's planning!

As far as I could tell, none of the big bets I wrote of yesterday paid off. The bride showed up on time, and remembered her groom's name. The ring was neither forgotten nor fumbled. Mr. Middleton made it to the altar dry-eyed, Prince Philip stayed awake, and anyone present who may have had cause to object to the marriage held his/her peace.
Yellow was the winning bet for those who put money on the color of the Queen's hat. It paid 3-1.
Which brings us to the other hats in the crowd. Reuters's News Service has a little slide show here.
Some were quite stylish, I thought, and some were rather silly.  I noticed a lot of  little boat-like numbers with various twigs, wires or feathered protrusions, such as that worn by Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew, seen here in blue, but I had to laugh out loud at the beige antler-like headdress sported by her sister, Princess Beatrice.
