This book is the "story-behind-the-story" of Whitefish, Montana, & it's the book we're currently reading & enjoying up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. "Stump Town to Ski: the Story of Whitefish, Montana, is from the Stumptown Historical Society over in Whitefish. The National Wildlife Federation fawns, "It is one of the great ironies of American history that the beautiful, empty & unpolluted landscape of our early frontier was dangerous beyond anything people who entered it had ever experienced, or even imagined. Men drowned crossing rivers, died in blizzards, in the waterless heat of summer, by falls from horses, by Indian arrow, by white man's bullet." If you ask me, this sounds even MORE dangerous than trying to read our basketball brackets! I'll see you tonight (Tuesday) at 6 o'clock for more Montana History at the Heritage.
