Because of Covid restrictions and our concern for the health of the community, the Shelby High School Student Council will not be hosting a community Veteran's Day program this year.  However, plans to recognize and thank our veterans in a way that will not require a large gathering have continued.

Veterans and auxiliary members are invited to pick up a free coffee courtesy of Prairie Peddler and a free cinnamon roll courtesy of the SHS Student Council at the Prairie Peddler on November 11.  Simply stop in at the Prairie Peddler between 9:00 and 11:30 am for their treat.  We hope that veterans and auxiliary members enjoy this small token of appreciation.  We appreciate the generosity of Kelli Lohr at the Prairie Peddler for donating the coffee and agreeing to hand out the TLC Catering cinnamon rolls.

At school that day, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month will be recognized with SHS Student Council president Jackson Appley reading a speech recognizing the sacrifices veterans have made.  Special acknowledgement of the importance of Veteran's Day and patriotism will also be made during the morning announcements all week.  Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy winners will also be announced.   Earlier, students composed thank you cards to give to local veterans.

The SHS Student Council hopes that next year we can all gather again at the high school to honor our veterans.
