It will be in the resident's eyes when I start reading my latest tome at the Marias Heritage Center this evening at six. I'm finally ready to leave the Yaak (and no, I'm not going back) and commence a new book. This one looks like a page turner...or in this case, a page BURNER. The name of the book is "A Great Day To Fight Fire-Mann Gulch, 1949". It's a story of lost youth, broken hearts, and man's inability to conquer nature. The famous Mann Gulch fire took place near Helena in 1949. Sixteen men ventured into hell to fight a raging wildfire; only three came out alive. Just when you thought there was nothing worse than living in the Yaak! I'm looking forward to another Tuesday night of reading Montana History at the beautiful Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby this evening.
