The late Emil Anderson knew this after the lights went out in the mine. He knew the DEADLY gas would soon be coming for him. Anderson was one of the 78 men on duty February 27, 1943, when the Smith Mine in down Bearcreek, Montana blew up. I'll be sharing & reading more on that disaster this evening (Tuesday) at Montana History up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. Our current read is, "Goodbye Wifes and Daughters," powerfully written by Susan Kushner Resnick. Looking forward to more Montana History at 6 tonight at the Heritage.
