AccuWeather Global Weather Center – March 30, 2022 – Activity has been ramping up on the surface of the sun over the past week, and a recent burst of activity could lead to an outbreak of the aurora borealis across Canada and the northern United States.

On Monday, NOAA's sun-watching satellites detected two eruptions on the surface of the sun that sent enormous clouds of charged particles, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), blasting through space. AccuWeather says the second partical cloud is expected to catch up and merge with the first, forming one massive cloud of charged particles by the time it reaches earth's atmosphere later this evening, setting off the phenomenon known as the Northern Lights.

Skies are expected to be partly coudy across northcentral Montana tonight, which should afford us a decent view of the show, especially if you are away from city lights.
