Justin Moore is giving fans the first taste of some brand-new music with his new single, "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home." Readers can press play above to hear the track, which Moore released on Friday (Oct. 12).

"The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" was co-written by Moore, along with Paul Digiovanni, Jeremy Stover and Chase McGill. Listeners who are expecting a somber melody won't get that, though the lyrics are still devastating enough to draw a tear or two.

"Here's to the ones that didn't make it back home / The ones we ain't see in so long / The hold-up-a-beer ones, the wish-they-were-here ones / The not forgotten but gone," Moore sings in the chorus of "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home." "They're in a better place up there / But they sure left a hole down here / We just go on livin' and go on missin' / The ones, the ones that didn't make it back home."

The verses of "The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" tell the story of a young soldier whose life was cut short while he was serving his country. The lyrics are just specific enough to paint a vivid picture, yet they're general enough to evoke the stories of any number of fallen military members.

"The Ones That Didn't Make It Back Home" is the first single from Moore's next album, which is due out in 2019. The disc will feature Brent Mason on guitar and Paul Franklin on pedal steel; it's being mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, a Grammys-winning audio engineer who's worked with, among others, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna.

Moore last released a new album, Kinda Don't Care, in 2016. That record hit No. 1 on the country charts and spawned two No. 1 and gold-certified singles.
