KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week each had numerous nominations from coaches and fans following basketball games played last weekend.

Multiple nominations are somewhat of a rarity, and it shows just how strong the performances were.

Nobody in the state, regardless of gender or class, scored more points than our male Athlete of the Week, Shelby SR. Kyle McDermott. Kyle exploded for 36 points on the opening night and gave the Coyotes a 75-39 win over St. Ignatius. Almost equal on Saturday night with 33 points and another Shelby win over Chinook 68-42.

Shelby Coach Mike White called Kyle’s shooting from the 3-point line “prolific” after he hit 10 3-point shots in the two games. Coach White was also quick to point out that Kyle was very active on the top of the Shelby zone defense and that led to a lot of fast break opportunities.

Just about everybody who nominated Kyle, mentioned that he has put a lot of time and effort into improving his skills and that surely showed up on the opening weekend.

Our female Athlete of the Week, also led the way to two Shelby victories, which Coyotes Coach Ryan McDermott says, “Has never happened before.” SR. Cameron Blevins led the Lady Coyotes in both scoring and rebounding in the two games combined. She totaled 11 in the Friday game and 21 against Eureka.

Blevins averaged 13.5 rebounds in the two games and at just around 5’ 6” she has always been a leading rebounder for the Coyotes and in the district. Shelby Coach Ryan McDermott says the entire team rebounded well and Blevins is so successful because she just “Attacks the rim.”

She also averaged 5 steals and 2.5 assists.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, SR. Kyle McDermott of Shelby and SR. Cameron Blevins of Shelby. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
