LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

(UNDATED) – KSEN/K96 –Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week ventured into unchartered territories, both individually and with their teams.

Our Male Athlete of the Week is in almost exclusive territory as it is his 3rd Athlete of the Week award this season.  CJI Jr. Nate Nelson piled up numbers that just couldn’t be overlooked in The Hawks’ 79-75 loss in the playoffs last weekend.

You might figure the numbers would be huge in a game with that kind of score, and they were. Nate carried the ball 22 times for 297-yards and 6 Touchdowns.  He had 5 kickoff returns for 128 yards and 1 Touchdown.  There was also a pass completion for an extra point and 11 tackles on defense.

CJI Head Coach Jim Vinson said it truly has been, “an amazing year,” for Nelson but he was quick to point out it’s been more than a one-man show with the entire team being part of that amazing season.

We have had numerous Athletes who have won the award 3 times in a season, but I don’t recall having one in the same sport.

We had to do some thinking on our Female Athlete of the Week as one nomination came in for a team award for the Fairfield Eagles.  While we didn’t award that, we did name a Fairfield player whose Coach says “really turned it on in both the District and Divisional Tournaments.

Sr. hitter Brynn Kolste in the stat department had a whopping 49 kills and 20 digs.  Those were the biggest numbers, but her overall play was just outstanding.

Speaking of that team nomination Head Coach Kari Schubarth told us “This team has really worked hard as individuals and as a team and as a result They became the 1B District champions and The Northern B Divisional Champions, which is a 1st in Fairfield.

And it didn’t end there, we had quality nominations for Sr. Tessa Brownell of Choteau with her outstanding season and Tournament performances and Conrad’s Breauna Erickson for her unending enthusiasm and inspiring play for the Cowgirls.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Nate Nelson of the CJI Hawks and Brynn Kolste of the Fairfield Eagles.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
