LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

(UNDATED) – KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week were a consistent force in their team’s playoff victory in football and Tournament success in Volleyball.

Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Conrad’s outside hitter and all-around force, Sr. Ashlee Stokes.  We had 3 nominations come in for Ashlee which is rare in our Athlete of the Week program.

One nominator said Ashlee really brings “consistency, positive attitude and team leadership,” to the Cowgirls and she’s just fun to watch.  Another said, “I can’t believe how much she’s improved over the last 3 years.”

Conrad Head Coach Amy Chambers said, “she has been a great asset for us at the net with her blocking and hitting skills.”

In the 1B District Tournament she led the team consistently in blocking and kills and she seemed to be best in the biggest matches.  In the first Fairfield match she knocked down 10 kills and then in the Championship match, 9 kills and 4 blocks.   Against a tough Shelby team, 4 blocks and 7 kills.

The 2nd place finish for Conrad in the District is as high as they’ve finished in many years and a trip to State has been even longer.  Of course, that’s what they’ll be trying to accomplish this weekend in Malta.

Our Male Athlete of the Week, and we could be sounding like a broken record here, but that’s how It goes when good teams keep winning.  CJI so. QB Ryland St. John led the Hawks to a 1st round playoff win over Denton-Geyser-Stanford-Geraldine.   He didn’t take long to get things going, driving the Hawks down the field on the opening drive of the game where he hit Cooper Streit on an 11yd TD pass.

On the day Ryland would complete 11-15 passes for 158 yards and 3 Touchdowns.  He also contributed on defense with 6 tackles, 2 pass deflections and one interception.

We also had a quality nomination for Cut Bank Sr. Linebacker Brandoen Molenda who had 12 tackles, 2 for a loss in the playoff game against Columbus.  He was a leading tackler for the Wolves all season long.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Ashlee Stokes of the Conrad Cowgirls and So. Ryland St. John of the CJI Hawks. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.

KSEN encourages all parents, fans and Coaches to nominate Athlete’s when you believe they have had an outstanding, above-average performance.  E-mail markdaniels@townsquaremedia.com
