Athlete of the Week
LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
(UNDATED) – Players from Fairfield and CJI have been named KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week for their performances in Volleyball and Football last week.
Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Fairfield Sr. Toryn Martinez. The Lady Eagles are dominating play in the 1B District and in fact have lost only one match at 10-1 all season. Head Coach Kari Schubarth says Martinez is a big part of that and has “really stepped up into a leadership role this season in both competitiveness and attitude.”
In Fairfield’s wins last week over 2nd place Conrad and then 3rd place Chinook, Martinez knocked down 17 kills and had 8 blocks. She is also an outstanding starter on the Fairfield Basketball Team.
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to CJI Hawks running back, Sr. Adam Grammar. CJI Head Coach Jim Vinson used the word “crazy,” in describing just how consistent and dominating Grammar has been this season.
In the Hawks win over Box Elder last weekend, Grammar carried the ball 12 times for 141 yards and 3 Touchdowns. He added 2 receptions for 27 yards and 1Td. On the other side of the ball, he recorded 11 solo tackles, 3 for a loss and 1 fumble recovery.
When he’s not carrying the ball, Grammar is among the best blocking backs around. CJI’s win over Box Elder turned a little bit lopsided but Coach Vinson points out that they are a very good team and have beaten some very good teams, but Grammar’s and the rest of the Hawks play neutralized the Bears.
We also had nominations this week for Addisyn Harrell of Cut Bank for her play against Rocky Boy and Cut Bank receiver Sean ward for his play against Fairfield.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Toryn Martinez of Fairfield and Sr. Adam Grammar of CJI. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
