KSEN/K96 BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Another year of local high school sports has begun and that means it's time to start naming "Athletes of the Week" from the local area.
Our first KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week highlights the consistent offense and swarming defense that Cut Bank put up in their opening game, a shutout over the highly rated Townsend Bulldogs, 29-0.
Cut Bank Sr. running back Kanon Branch was a big part of the offense that 1st year Head Coach Cole Cooper described as "very consistent in executing plays,"
Branch carried the ball 9 times for 102 yards with one rushing TD and one receiving TD. He was also a big part of the defense that had a lot of outstanding individual performances that created several turnovers and the shutout win.
Branch recorded 8 tackles, 3 for a loss and 1 sack. Coach Cooper said the defense was like a swarming "wolf pack."
Among the intangibles, Coach Cooper said it appeared that his team was having a great time playing.
Our Female Athlete of the Week, along with Fairfield teammates pulled off a solid opening weekend at the Choteau Invitational Volleyball Tournament and then pulled off an early season upset over Choteau, 3-1 Tuesday night.
Sr. hitter Brynlee Bakken knocked 17 kills in the Choteau match and added 4 digs. Fairfield Head Coach Kari Schubarth told us that Bakken came into her Sr. season "ready to play." She says Brynlee leads by example with a very positive attitude, dedication to the team and the program and an outstanding "work ethic."
Congratulations to our 1st Male Athlete of the Week, Sr. Kanon Branch of the Cut Bank Wolves and Sr. Brynlee Bakken of the Fairfield Eagles. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
