
Coach Hauk Retires as Leader of Montana Grizzly Football
I didn't have earthquake in Great Falls on my bingo card for the month of January, and it looks like I have already blown February up as well. I did not see this one coming from the University of Montana.
Popular coach and Montana native Bobby Hauck is retiring as the head coach of the University of Montana Grizzly Football program.

Coach Hauk Retires as Leader of Montana Grizzly Football
In a statement through the University's website, Coach Hauck's resignation is effective immediately as of Wednesday, February 4, 2026. In his place, the organization has announced that wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy will take his place, also effective immediately.

Hauck retires after 14 seasons, and 19 total for the school in his two tenures as it's coach. He was the 37th head coach for the University and compiled an impressive 151-33 (.778%) record with the school.
It Will be Hard for Anyone to Match Hauk's Impressive Tenure as Head Coach
In those years as head coach, Hauck amassed an incredible set of coaching stats, including:
- the winningest coach in Big Sky Conference history in both overall wins (151) and conference wins (86)
- four-time AFCA FCS Regional Coach of the Year
- four-time Big Sky Coach of the Year
- a three-time finalist for the Eddie Robinson FCS Coach of the Year Award
Not Just a Leader on the Field, But Also for Academics for Players
It wasn't all about the gridiron for Coach Hauck. According to the University, "Since his return to UM in 2018 Hauck's Grizzlies posted the highest-grade point averages in program history, averaging over a 3.0 GPA or better for 15-consecutive semesters. In that time the Griz have had a conference-high 243 Academic All-Big Sky honorees. A conference-high seven Grizzlies have also been named Academic All-American."
We wish all the best to Coach Hauck and his retirement, and also to new head coach Kennedy.
