In new data from the state, Montana residents seeking healthcare coverage for 2026 followed national trends by selecting private or employer coverage, rather than using the Marketplace offered through the Affordable Care Act.

New Stats Show Montana's Using Marketplace Healthcare Less in 2026

Preliminary data released by the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI) through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) show that 77,221 Montana consumers selected Marketplace coverage for plan year 2025.

But preliminary data shows that "Marketplace plan selections in Montana are down by about 6 percent compared to last year" according to Commissioner James Brown.  Data shows 73,255 Montana consumers had selected Marketplace coverage for plan year 2026 as of the federal reporting cutoff. Those numbers stay with national numbers also: "The approximate 5% decrease in Montana enrollment is consistent with the nationwide decrease of 4.94%".

CSI in Montana Continues to Monitor Updates While Offering Help to Consumers

Commissioner Brown encouraged Montana's with questions to contact the CSI office, saying they "will continue monitoring enrollment as final numbers are confirmed, and we remain focused on making sure Montanans understand their coverage options and know where to get help".
