Walmart stores sold the broccoli of concern in 20 different states.

The recall is due to reports of listeria.

Listeria Advisory Issued for Broccoli

The advisory follows random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services, which identified a potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported, and this advisory is purely precautionary.

Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious health issues, particularly in vulnerable populations such as:

  • Young children
  • Elderly individuals
  • Pregnant women (risk of miscarriage or stillbirth)
  • Individuals with weakened immune systems

Symptoms of Listeria infection:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiffness
  • Nausea and abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms, while severe cases can lead to fatal infections.
