I'm not sure how the holidays flew by as quickly as they did this year.

I'm sure part of it was the shorter timeframe between Thanksgiving and Christmas compared to normal.

But here we are past the halfway point of January, and I still have Christmas decorations up!

I'm generally one of the first people to tear everything down in our neighborhood, usually only a few days after New Year's.

But this year, I've decided to leave everything up a bit longer.

Some of that is due to the snow on the ground, which makes it feel a little more Christmas-like outside than when it was Christmas.

But I got to thinking, when is the right time to take down Christmas decorations?

When To Take Christmas Decorations Down?

You can imagine my surprise when I decided to Google when I should take down my Christmas decorations and found out there are actually some guidelines!

This is by no means mandatory, but I discovered a couple of different traditions while researching.

Christian Holiday Decoration Traditions

  • Come to find out many Christians use the 12th night of Christmas or the 5th day of January, which is the eve of Epiphany.
  • This is the night in which the three Wiseman are believed to have arrived to see baby Jesus.

Christmas Decoration Folklore

  • Some folklore traditions even say it is bad luck to leave decorations past the fifth night of January.
  • All I know is if this is the case, I will be doomed to bad luck this year.
