Tick Season Has Arrived In Montana

When you live somewhere that feels like it has more winter than anything else, you try to pack as much as you can into the warmer months.

Turns out we’re not the only ones that love the nicer weather either, because ticks are out and about right now too. But don’t worry, we’ve got some tips below on how to keep them away and off you this summer.

Mild Winter Conditions Could Mean More Ticks This Year

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is reminding Montana residents to be on the lookout for ticks as temperatures warm up and they become more active.

And honestly, that dry and warmer winter we just had probably didn’t help things. Those conditions were pretty ideal for tick survival, meaning there are likely more of them out there this year.

FWP also warns it’s not just humans that need to be careful either since all warm-blooded animals can become targets.

How To Protect Yourself From Ticks In Montana

FWP spokesperson Morgan Jacobsen told KBZK that “people, pets, livestock, and wildlife” are all at risk when it comes to ticks.

To help protect yourself, Jacobsen recommends wearing long sleeves and tucking your pants into your boots if you’re spending time outdoors, especially around tall grass, bushes, or wooded areas.

And if your pets go hiking with you or spend a lot of time outside, make sure you’re checking them regularly too.
