New U.S. Forest Service App Helps Outdoor Adventurers

"Get Lost in Montana." You've probably seen that slogan on a bumper sticker, T-shirt, or somewhere online. It's a great tourism slogan.

Actually getting lost in Montana, though, is a whole different story.

Cell Service Is Still a Challenge in Montana

Thankfully, your chances of that happening just got a little smaller thanks to a new app from the U.S. Forest Service.

Our phones can do just about everything these days, but they still have one major weakness: they need service. And if you're heading out to really explore Montana, odds are you're also heading somewhere your cell signal disappears.

That's where the new National Forests and Grasslands app comes in.

Offline Maps Could Be a Game Changer for Outdoor Enthusiasts

The app gives users access to information on more than 165,000 miles of trails and over 30,000 recreation sites across the country. You'll also be able to check trail conditions, receive safety alerts, and find important recreation information before you head out.

But honestly, the biggest reason to download it is the offline maps.

You can download maps ahead of time and access them even when you're miles from the nearest cell tower. Whether you're brand new to hiking or the kind of person who practically lives outdoors, having that information available could make a huge difference.

Because while getting lost in Montana might be part of the adventure, realizing you took a wrong turn three miles back is a lot less fun.
