If you ever feel like Montana gets left out of a lot of national rankings, here’s another one to add to the pile.

A new report came out looking at the most and least educated cities in America. Want to take a guess how many Montana cities made the list?

WalletHub Study Measures Education Levels Across U.S. Cities

If you guessed zero, you’re right, but it still stings a little when you see it laid out like that.

The study focused on the top 150 metro areas, which is part of why Montana doesn’t show up on a lot of these rankings in the first place.

WalletHub looked at things like high school graduation rates, college degrees, graduate degrees, school quality, and even education gaps tied to income and gender.

Not surprisingly, a lot of the top spots are college towns. When you’ve got a major university in your backyard, you’re going to see more graduates sticking around for work.

Montana Still Has Highly Educated Communities Despite Rankings

And Montana is no different there.

In Gallatin County, home to Montana State University, more than 50% of residents have at least a bachelor’s degree. Over in Missoula County, where the University of Montana is located, that number is close to 45%.

So even if Montana didn’t technically make the list, there’s still no shortage of educated folks living under the Big Sky.
