Potential Use Of Original Keystone XL Infrastructure
South Bow Corp., a Calgary-based independent energy infrastructure company, is considering the expansion. The actual application was filed by Bridger Pipeline LLC.
The plan calls for a 550,000-barrel-per-day pipeline that would move crude oil out of Canada, across Montana, and into Wyoming for processing.
The proposed route would run near the original border crossing for the Keystone XL Pipeline, which has people wondering if parts of that old project could be repurposed.
Pipeline Revival Could Ease U.S.-Canada Tensions
The Keystone XL pipeline was first proposed in 2008 by TC Energy Corp. It quickly turned into a political lightning rod and was officially shut down in 2021 after former President Joe Biden revoked a key permit.
The new Bridger project could reuse the steel left behind from the halted construction to complete a pipeline.
With tensions running high between the America and Canada, some believe a revived Keystone-style project could help ease strained relations. One that was intensified after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canada in 2025.
