It’s Learn About Butterflies Day!
Hey, I'm for anything that helps us "think Spring" right now, and since someone has declared today "Learn About Butterflies Day", I thought I'd play along. Here's a website that has a ton of information about butterflies right here in Montana, including articles on planting a butterfly garden, and instructions for building a butterfly house!
Here's some butterfly trivia you can wow the family with at dinner:
1. There are over 28,000 species of butterflies.
2. The longest-lived butterfly, the Brimstone, lives about 11 months.
3. The largest butterfly in the world is the Queen Alexandra's Birdwing butterfly, which can reach a wingspan of up to 12 1/2 inches.
4. The smallest butterfly is the Western Pygmy Blue, with a wingspan of just 3/8 inch.
5. Butterflies are insects from the order Lepidoptera, which is why people who study or collect butterflies are called lepidopterists.
