We have our 1st KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week for the winter sports season, focused in on H.S. Wrestling.

The Good majority of our local Wrestlers opened up the season at the Cascade Invitational and the local area came away with 7 individual champions.

Athlete of the Week honors go to Conrad Jr. Logan VanDyke who won the Championship in Cascade in the 120-lb. weight class. You might recall that Logan had an unfortunate injury that kept him from competing at a 100-percent level in the State Tournament.  Well, Logan appears to be as strong as ever to start the new year.

Conrad’s 2nd year Head Coach Luke Schlosser says in his opinion, the 120-pound weight class was the toughest division there was at the Tournament.  There were 7 ranked wrestlers in the bracket, including a defending champion from last year at 103 lbs., Cole Rogers of Three Forks/Ennis.  VanDyke beat Rogers in the Semi-finals and then went on to defeat Mathias Hogue, 7-2.  Hogues is also from Three Forks/Ennis who won the Cascade Invitational Team Championship.  Conrad wound up 5th in the Team Standings.

Female Athlete of the Week honors go to Simms Wrestler Lilian Schubarth who won the Championship in the 126-132 pound weight class.  Simms Head Coach Robert Hazenberg says Schubarth wrestled well throughout the tournament and actually worked a bit on building up points as opposed to going for a pin quickly.  Schubarth was also voted by the Coaches as the Tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.  Simms finished 2nd in the Team Standings with just 3 wrestlers competing.  She defeated Shelby Fr. Neveah Riphenburg in the Championship match.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Jr. Logan VanDyke of Conrad and Jr. Lilian Schubarth of Simms.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.

KSEN encourages all Coaches, fans, & parents to nominate individuals for the Athlete of the Week Award when you believe they have had an outstanding performance.  E-mail: markdaniels@townsquaremedia.com
