LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

5/17/2023 – KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week got greedy picking up points for their team at the 1B District Track Meet last weekend.

Our Male Athlete of the Week grabbed a total of 37 points and his Cut Bank Wolves ended up with enough to win the team title by 2 points over 2nd place Fairfield.

James Greene, a Jr. has been an All-State Athlete in X-Country but this is the first year that he’s competed in Track and Field.  His first District Meet was quite impressive as he recorded wins in the 800m, the 1600m and the 3200m.  Follow that up with a 3rd in the 400m and a 6th in the 100m dash.

Cut Bank Head Coach Jared Berkram said what was really amazing was the 100m that he has only run a few times and he had just about 10 minutes earlier finished the 800m.  Berkram says we really didn’t expect a place there but Greene is willing to do whatever he’s asked to do.

Berkram also says he believes James has the potential to improve his times as he focuses even more on his main events at this week’s Northern B Divisional.

We also had a nomination for Shelby’s Randon Richman who scored 29 points for Shelby with a win in the 400m and 2nd’s in both the 100m and 200m.  He had personal bests in all three.

Our Female Athlete of the Week just seems to know how to win when the stakes are high. Just a few days after being named KSEN’s Female Athlete of the Year, Choteau Sr. Ada Bieler won all five of the events she entered at the 1B.

Victories in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, shot put and discus helped vault Choteau into a 2nd place team finish behind only Conrad.

Ada was a standout runner in her Sophomore year but then an injury her  Jr. season eliminated her distance running.  She picked up those field events just to participate and look what happened there.   Despite another injury during the Basketball season this year, she overcame and now has once again won all three of her main running events plus the field events.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Jr. James Greene of Cut Bank and Sr. Ada Bieler of Choteau.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’sin Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
