Our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week turned up the heat when it came time for the Champions to be crowned in the 1B District Tournament.

Ladies first…. and Shelby’s win in the Championship game over Conrad may have been a surprise to many, but the girls themselves played like they were not surprised in the least.  The Lady Coyotes came out shooting and hit 8-3’s in the first half.    With a 10-point lead at the half, Conrad outscored them 20-9 in the 3rd quarter and we had a 1-point game.

Enter, 5’6’ Jr. post Cami Blevins, not that she hadn’t been there all night but there just seems to be something a little deeper than brings Blevins out when the pressure is on.

Constantly finding ways to get rebounds that appear to be out of reach, almost always against bigger opponents and the constant encouragement to teammates.   This was a great team effort from Shelby, but Blevins plays a big leadership role.    Her numbers speak for themselves - 11 points, 13 rebounds (8 offensive) and 31 minutes on the court.

In the Friday night win over Fairfield, 9-points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals in the low scoring 30-29 victory.

Our Male Athlete of the Week was a little more difficult to choose, as Fairfield won the boys Championship in the 1B with really one of the best team efforts we’ve seen all year as they hit just about everything they threw up, dominated rebounding and ended up with an 80-43 victory.

But we did make a decision and the Athlete of the Week honors go to Fairfield Sr. Brian Ward who was in double figures by the end of the 1st quarter in the Championship game.

The Sr. ended the night with 6-9 shooting from the field and 3-4 from 3-pt range.  He also had 5 assists and 3 steals.   There wasn’t much for points in the semi-final win over Shelby on Friday night, but Head Coach Jordan Ratliff agreed he did everything else we needed in that game with 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Jr. Cami Blevins of Shelby and Sr. Brian Ward of Fairfield.  The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
