Athlete of the Week
Our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy male Athlete of the Week hit the ground running and never slowed down and our female Athlete of the week in the words of her coach, “caught fire,” on Saturday at the Chinook Invitational.
I heard one observer say, “we could say we’re surprised, but we really aren’t” as Fairfield routed top-ranked Missoula Loyola in the football opener for both teams last Friday night. 1st year Jr. QB Keeley Bake led the way with 235 yards rushing for 3 touchdowns and tossed 1TD pass to Gaige Blackwell. Fairfield Head Coach Les Meyer describes Bake “as a leader by action,” an outstanding student and outgoing in a subtle way. He is not a big athlete but certainly possesses athletic abilities second to none at the H.S. level. On defense, playing to the strong side of the Loyola offense, Keeley had eight tackles and one pass deflection on the corner.
Our female Athlete of the Week, according to 1st year Head Coach Taylor Thompson, “was on fire Saturday,” and led the Simms Tigers to a second-place finish in Chinook, losing only to Glasgow on the final day. Senior Janessa Willekes who has been a force on the court for a couple of years now appears ready to shine even brighter in her Sr. season. Coach Thompson told us she was really excited about Willekes' play, but her great leadership as well. The numbers were impressive with 63 kills, 17 aces and 3 blocks.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week, Sr Janessa Willekes of Simms and Jr. Keeley Bake of the Fairfield Eagles. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
