For the second straight week, a volleyball player from Choteau and a football player from Shelby are our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week.

Fairfield quarterback, Ryder Myer had another fantastic week in the Eagles win over Manhattan. The senior quarterback has two touchdown passes and an 80-yard touchdown run, but how do you complete with seven touchdowns three extra-point kicks, an extra-point pass completion and approximately 300-yards total offense. It’s tough and our male athlete of the week, senior, Wyatt Brusven and head coach Mike White agrees he can do a lot of everything. And on the other side of the ball, Brusven is an excellent one on one tackler who typically reads the play well and closes in on ball carriers from his safety spot.

The Choteau Bulldogs ran their record to 21-0 with the divisional championship in Cut Bank and there were star performances all-around. For example, our athlete of the week from last week Michaela Gunderson had 18 kills in the second round Shelby match but with the consistent serving and serving up over all four matches, sophomore, Christine Funk is our athlete of the week. Choteau coach, Ann Funk, quoted in the Choteau Acantha said, “We continue to make plays because of the balls we’re able to dig up,” and the coach’s daughter was certainly getting that job done. Christine had an amazing 31 of the teams’ 95 digs in the Shelby match and she brought up another 23 in each of the wins over Fairfield. It was also a great serving weekend for Funk who led the team overall with five aces against Harlem, and eight against Fairfield in the championship match. And it wasn’t just the aces, but getting the serves in. Twice in the championship match she served eight straight points in the second set and again in the fourth set. She also added two kills in the fourth set and the Bulldogs take the championship.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week, senior Wyatt Brusven of Shelby and Sophomore Christine Funk of Choteau. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes of the week with two free value meals each.
